Thank You, C Magazine

I am chuffed to announce that this month's issue of C Magazine has a little article on yours truly in it (page 66). But equally as exciting as seeing my name in print was the fact that best-selling author/editor/bonne vivante Diane Dorrans Saeks penned the piece, and so I had a few phone conversations with her. If her name sounds familiar, it's because you totally know her. She's written dozens of books. Perhaps some of these look familiar:

Michael S. Smith: Elements of Style

Santa Barbara Living

Paris Style

Orlando Diaz-Azcuy

Interiéurs de la côte

Hollywood Style

(I know. Not too shabby, huh?)

Anyway, I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to meet her through this blog. The woman is remarkable. My conversations with her lasted for hours...not because we were talking about me but because I became so enthralled with her life I couldn't stop asking questions about her! She's lived all over the globe, has read every book ever written and is chic beyond all comprehension. She's so old-school cool that this impromptu paean to her will undoubtedly alarm her, but no matter. She's just going to have to deal with the admiration.
(Diane Dorrans Saeks)

Her blog The Style Saloniste has become one of my favorites because of all the first-hand stories and insider glimpses she reveals about her glamorous, design-filled life. She doesn't just merely discuss Picasso...oh no. She shows you personal photos from when she visited his house in Provence.

And when writing about Axel Vervoordt, she doesn't resort to source material. Pshaw. She flies to his castle, interviews the man and cajoles him into getting on his horse so she can snap an impromptu photo.

Yes.
I know.
Just click over there now and we'll convene for kvelling later.

Finally found you!

..a friend called me to tell of how she spied you in this "C" magazine!

I didn't ask why, I just trust and then followed.

Your success is Our success.

Lisa! I knew this was coming out and was looking all over for it, but somehow needed to come here to find the page number. I agree...Diane is one of the most chic and generous persons I think I have ever met. And your blog certainly deserves lots of attention. It has become one of my all time favorites!!!! Big congrats.

Tartan Scot: Thank you so much. I'm so bummed I missed your star turn here in LA...I saw photos of you at Ronda Carman's party at Nathan Turner's...I flew to MI that night and was imagining the festivities as I was crammed into coach class. :)

Teri: xxx I think I adore you.

Katiedid: Right back at you, you fabulous thing you. And yes, that Diane is really something, huh? I feel like she's one of the last of a rare breed -- the next time I'm in SF, we should all meet for lunch, don't you think?! (And you too Tartan Scot!) xx

I think DDS shines in her own light. She sees the world in 3-D: time, space and relationships. And now, what see choses to illuminate is very special indeed.

Dear Lisa and Friends--

Lisa you are an enchanting writer and your blog has been on my blog roll of favorites from day one.

I loved writing about you in C magazine--and look forward to writing about you again in future.

You are brilliant beyond words and I'm honored (and blushing) and honored once more.

Deepest thanks and friendship (books are on the way), DIANE

Honey, do I need to spell it?? Carve it in stone?? You know what I mean, don't you. Anyway, I wish I could read the article, but no C magazine here in Italy - as far as I know. I'm still waiting for something with a hardcover ;-) But that won't take that long anymore. Mark my words sweetie, mark my words.

C.T: Where would I be without your dose of Italian sunshine?! Looking forward to meeting you in the near future... ci vediamo! xx

Home Before Dark: Your words about the one and only DDS are beautifully put.

Oh, my. Congratulations.

She wrote my absolute favorite decorating book, a little tome called California Cottages. I have one in the city and one in the country and peruse them all the time.

I love your site and am so glad I recently discovered it. Are you familiar with the Bloomsbury fabrics designed by Laura Ashley in the 1980's? They were fabulous.

You're right Lisa. She's as fabulous as fabulous can be. What an amazing woman! And you are too, you know? Congratulations and best wishes!

Victoria: Don't EVEN get me started on those textiles. I've only once seen a photo of one of them that Duncan Grant did...it was called "Clouds", I think? Anyway, I have been on a fruitless search ever since to obtain a small piece for myself. Ebay has turned up nothing so far. Do you have them? Or have photos of them?

Angie:You just made my day. xx

Lisa, I don't know how I missed out this post of yours! I'm so excited and pleased to hear about it. Now I must go to Newsagent at this moment and find out if I can buy C magazine. I've been a fan of Diane's blog which enriches me everytime I read. It's highly distinctive - there is no other blog liker hers. Like you, she's incredibly cultured and well-read. She knows more about British culture than I do! I'm so envious that you had a chance to speak to her on the phone. You know something? - next time if my fellow art lovers ask me the question: Who would attend your fantasy dinner party?

You and Diane will be two people on the list without a doubt! We would have champagne and talk for England.

Lisa Borgnes Giramonti said...

ASD: Oh, oh, OH...! Wouldn't that be fun? I'd bring the champagne...I have a bottle of Veuve Cliquot Grande Dame anxious to be opened.
