Sunday Gratitude

Some of you have already commented on my new header for "A Bloomsbury Life." It was created for me by supremely talented graphic designer Hillary Weber. I love it, plain and simple. Using photos from my life, she created an artful montage which feels both personal and full of personality. Hillary, thank you so much for your artistry, your unerring eye and your ability to perfectly distill the essence of my blog into 650 pixels.

(Enchanted path, Normandy, France, 2008)

On another note, I've been writing "A Bloomsbury Life" for about six months now and I want to thank everyone who continues to pop by. Honestly, I am so grateful. From Oman to Ohio, from Finland to Peru, from Scotland to Tasmania, I never cease to be amazed by the breadth of places that my readers hail from. And I so appreciate all of your comments and recommendations. I love when you recommend books for me (A Super Dilettante, I just ordered "The Englishman's Room", thanks to you) or inform me that my heraldic crests hail from Spain (gracias again, "Rocio") or send me a link to a country house you know I'll drool over. I started this blog for a variety of reasons, but one of the most rewarding results has been discovering that the world is full of kindred souls. Eccentricity and idiosyncrasy are highly prized on this site, and I love that no matter how unconventional one's tastes, through the miracle of cyberspace I can meet people who not only share my passions, but who can lead me even further down enchanted pathways of discovery.

Without sounding too cliche, your header is you in a nutshell! I love it!

Congratulations kindred spirit & LA eccentric! Happy to celebrate with you-But it's been longer than six months because I bookmarked some of your Beautiful 1st posts in December-Just more to Love.
You are too young to hide your age.

Pamela Terry and Edward: You are sooo sweet.

Little Augury: You're right...it's actually been about 10 months...I can't quite believe it. Time flies when you're having fun. :)

Hey the header is lovely. It pays in all ways to get someone who knows what they are doing to do it. A lovely collage of images, looks very 1950s to me.

I regularly visit your wonderful site. I think you must be great fun to know in person. Seeing how I'm in Georgia, I'm grateful to know you via this blog.

I love the new header, but was surprised not to see your garden gnome.

Best wishes for the next 6 months!

Jane: Yes, that Hillary is talented all right!

Tara: Unfortunately, the garden gnome didn't make the cut this time. Nor did our fake sheep, Percy. But they'll probably make future appearances on this blog, so don't feel too sorry for them. :)

Oh, you ordered "The Englishman's Room." There is also "The Englishwoman's House"; "The Englishwoman's Kitchen"; "The Englishwoman's Bedroom"; "The Englishwoman's Garden"; "The New Englishwoman's Garden"; and last but not least the very dated but somehow fascinating "Englishwoman's Wardrobe." Much to look forward to.

Did I mention the Mrs. Delany exhibit coming to Yale in September on its way to the Sir John Sloane museum in London. You will like Mrs. Delany. I believe they will have her embroidery as well as the flower collages. Collages are from the British Museum, but the embroideries are still in the hands of her family.

Anon: Have ordered most them already. Alvilde Lees-Milne certainly was prolific on the topic. "The Englishwoman's House" came last Friday and I've been poring through it all weekend. Diana Cooper's bedroom in Little Venice was pretty wonderful, as was her slightly waspish essay on all the bedrooms she has known. Can't wait for the others to arrive now. Didn't know about the "Wardrobe" and the "Kitchen" ones. Will have to look for them as well. Thank you! xx

And I'll make sure to see the Delany exhibit somehow...probably in London.

Each time I visit, it is like a wonderful "smorgasboard"of snippets, a bit of liberty, a bit sweet and sour, like a cherry, with a bit of freshly whipped cream served with a scone made from a secret recipe. Eaten under an graceful tree - whilst children jump about like frogs, and we dream of the prince within.
You make me want to become more literate, a better cook, a traveler, one part vagabond, and the other naturalist, and above all to add an artful flair to my day, not by any rules, nor time line.
Love your header, but of course that goes without saying. Tally ho!

Lisa, I absolutely adore your new heading. It tells so much about you: books, tea, family, garden and beautiful objects and your creative & graceful spirit. You must let us know which one is your favourite after you finished The Englishman/woman's Rooms. Derry Moore, also known as Lord Drogheda (the photographer for the Englishman's Rooms) has long been my idol. He is the epitome of elegance, keen aesthetic eye and impeccably good taste. Here is a link about him and his dashing portrait in the article in New York Times, "An Insider’s View of Society’s Vanishing Rooms"; At Home With Derry Moore http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/23/garden/23derry.html

If you want to find out more about his work, there is a book called "Rooms" which is a collection of great homes that he took the pictures for Architectural Digest. The word "Opulence" came to mind when I look at his photos. There is no other coffee table book like this.

Your blog is a delight. Your views and writings are like gazing down from Tilling church tower to the beautiful, stylish garden of 'Mallards'(the names of the places from Benson's Mapp and Lucia). I call it my "Tilling Gazette". I read it every morning with my breakfast!

A 650 pixel life in High-Def. Will a new tapestry soon follow? The thing I love here is the endless fascination with The Word. Readers are a dwindling lot. Nice to stumble upon other committed dwindlers.

Gorgeous header Lisa. Reading your posts is one of those "little pleasures" in life that makes your heart warm with contentment, like watching a sunset by the Mediterranean (just got back from my vacation and I miss the sea immensely!)The world has become smaller now, and yet, I feel some horizons have been broadened. Thank you for joie de vivre!!!
