Forgive Me

No proper post this week as I am knee-deep in rewrites for my upcoming speech and am determined not to get sidetracked (see last week's post). Want it to be inspiring and impassioned...otherwise, qu'est-ce que c'est le point, right?

* * * * *

In other news, I've been waiting forever to tell you that I am participating in this year's INCOGNITO art show, the annual benefit hosted by the Santa Monica Museum of Art.

WHEN: Saturday, April 30th, 7-10pm
WHERE: Santa Monica Museum of Art, Bergamot Station
(Incognito 2011 logo by artist Laura Owens)

Featuring original work by 500 contemporary artists, INCOGNITO 2011 has a brilliant premise: Each 8" by 10" piece costs only $300 and you don't find out who the artist is until after you've paid for it -- the concept being, "Trust your instincts and buy what you LIKE."

I absolutely love that, don't you?
High-priced luminaries like Ed Ruscha, Gary Baseman, Donald Baechler, Raymond Pettibon, John Baldessari and more have all entered works of art this year. Everything is first-come, first-serve and -- as you can see from these photos from last year's show -- when the organizers specify that doors open at 7pm sharp and every second counts, they aren't kidding.
The fellow with the smile snapped up an original Ed Ruscha for $300. (I'd be smiling too.)

I have two works in the show and am looking forward to meeting their future owners. Do come say hello on Saturday night if you see me!

  9. There is a chance I will be out of town that weekend, but if I am around I will definitely be there! At some point I would love to see your art work. Hope the speech is coming along well. Any chance you will be making this speech here in Los Angeles? I think that many of us would love to hear it!

  10. Lisa,

    Your concern about the Mercantile is misplaced, I will be there and will cheer no matter what. You will meet a group of readers who share your love of the literary and how it enobles our daily lives. No need for concern, see you there, Naomi Dallob

  11. Lisa,
    Just wanted to thank you for the book recommendation. I am almost finished with 'At Home' by Bill Bryson and have absolutely LOVED it! Mr. Bryson has taught me more things about the home than I could have ever imagined! An incredibly interesting history of the meaning and life of being 'At Home.' Thanks!

  13. Will you be showing you needle work?? Or is that a secret until after the show. What fun!! Congrats on the show!!! A coup de maître!! I predict your speech will captivate your audience! Your knowledge and your love of literature will automatically cancel any lint on your dress. Your passion and delightful style of interior design will make up for any stutter or drool! And your quick mind and rapier wit will win their hearts forever. Relax, you will do so well you will wonder why you fretted! Just have fun!
